Full Trim.
The second quarter has come and gone, and I still cannot believe we are halfway through 2022. Maybe it is an age-related memory thing as I turned sixty back in April. I am also buying into that whole “age is just a number” thing now (Is sixty the new thirty??).
Two old sayings might best explain the real story behind this time-lapse.
The first saying is that “calm seas do not make a seasoned sailor.” The first two quarters of 2022 have been challenging for Zero/Six. Along with the usual course of doing business during those months, we also became the sole owner of a new education and training business (long story over stiff drinks) and developed a facility for that training effort on the Rellis Campus of the Texas A & M University System.
It has been a real whirlwind of activity, and we (me) may have bitten off more than we could comfortably chew. But when you are in the middle of an intense storm, there is no time to look back and reflect on what is/was behind you; history is meaningless when you are stone-cold focused on the future. Was it a self-inflicted storm? Maybe. I am a seasoned sailor and like a good storm every now and then, it shows the young folks I still have “it”. All that said, I can also appreciate a break in the “weather” and am glad to be back out the other end!
That storm produced better facilities, upgraded equipment, and an expanded service offering. Zero/Six is now better suited to provide for our clients than ever, and the sixty-year-old captain feels downright frisky.
The second saying is that “time flies when you are having fun.” I love to hunt and fish, but I am a worker at the end of the day. I love my job and the folks I work with. I try hard (and do a fair job) to balance the things that are more important (like the “F” trifecta- faith, family, and friends), but it is tough. Long story short is that my workdays fly by; it makes sense the weeks and months would follow suit.
I cannot say that we are completely beyond the impact of the Rona, but we are tuned up and back at full trim. Our Zero/Six team continues to be a great group of people working for an appreciative client base on marquis projects. We are the smallest boat on the water, running full speed next to giants. No fear. Just seasoned sailors having fun.
